ConcludedOn the one hundredth anniversary of the birth of Giovanni Testori, and with the participation of Umberto Orsini, an evening curated by Giovanni Agosti and dedicated to the intense relationship between the writer and the director Luchino Visconti. Taking its cue from Luchino, the never-before-seen biography published by Feltrinelli, and shifting between cinema and theatre, the show is a study of the encounter between these two important figures in twentieth century culture.

Con questo spettacolo che idealmente e ambientalmente si riallaccia a Rocco e si suoi fratelliVisconti ritorna al teatro di prosa dopo due anni di assenza. L&#;Arialda sarà presentata a Modena il 12 novembre prossimo e poi a Roma al Teatro Eliseo nel periodo Natalizio. C&#;è chi sostiene che Luchino Visconti si sia lussato apposta un ginocchio per diventare più nervoso, e comunicare il suo nervosismo agli attori che recitano nella commedia: Paolo Stoppa e sopratutto Rina Morelli, che in poco tempo, per esigenze teatrali, si è cambiata in una zitella ossessionata dal demone erotico, sino ad arrivare fino al delitto. Terzo capitolo del ciclo testoriano de I segreti di Milano, questa opera teatrale scritta nel fin da subito è andata incontro a una vicenda particolare. Venne censurata, prima ancora di essere messa in scena, per la presunta oscenità dei temi trattati. L’immediato blocco della sua rappresentazione – per la regia di Luchino Visconti – venne ordinato dallo stesso giudice che aveva già censurato il film Rocco e i suoi fratelli, anch’esso diretto da Visconti. In realtà quella teatrale era una versione dell’Arialda già sottoposta a una serie di tagli preventivi, che edulcoravano i temi “sovversivi” presenti nel lavoro di Testori. Protagonisti della trama, una vera e propria tragedia plebea – come sempre nella tradizione testoriana –, sono Arialda, camiciaia zitella, il fratello omosessuale Eros, tenero innamorato di Lino, e Gaetana, una “spiantata terrona”. La vicenda, che per la prima volta nel panorama culturale italiano poneva al centro la legittimità dell’amore omosessuale, non poteva che scontrarsi con la mentalità di un Paese ancora bigotto che con fatica cercava di diventare moderno.
