Telemann war wohl der eifrigste Komponist einer ohnehin sehr schaffensfreudigen Epoche. Als Kind erlernte er auf eigene Faust verschiedene Instrumente, doch als er mit zwölf Jahren seine erste Oper komponieren wollte, nahm ihm seine Familie alle Instrumente weg und verbot ihm jede weitere Beschäftigung mit der Musik. Im Internat komponierte Telemann trotzdem heimlich weiter. Als er Magdeburg verließ, blieben seine Instrumente und bisherigen Kompositionen zurück, so dass seine Kommilitonen an der Universität in Leipzig nichts von seinen musikalischen Talenten ahnten. Eines Tages stieß jedoch ein Zimmergenosse auf eine von Telemanns Kompositionen und brachte sie in der Thomaskirche zur Aufführung. Auf diese Weise hörte auch der Bürgermeister von Leipzig das Stück, woraufhin er Telemann einen größeren Kompositionsauftrag anbot, der zum Startschuss für eine glänzende Karriere werden sollte. übernahm Telemann die Organistenstelle an der Neuen Kirche, und berief man ihn als Kapellmeister nach Eisenach. wurde er Musikdirektor in Hamburg, und mit dieser anspruchsvollen Aufgabe übernahm er die Verantwortung für die Kirchenmusik der Stadt und

Born in in Magdeburg, Germany, Telemann was the son of a Lutheran deacon. His father&#;s untimely death in left the family in the care of his mother, who, despite her initial disapproval, eventually allowed the young Telemann to pursue his passion for music. Self-taught, he displayed an early aptitude for numerous instruments, including the violin, flute, oboe, viola da gamba, recorder, double bass, and various keyboard instruments.
