Rika Zaraï, born under the name Rivka Gozman, was born on February 19,, in Jerusalem, in Palestine. Her father was a Russian from Odessa and her mother was a Pole from Wołożyn. As a young girl, Rika Zaraï was serious, in her general studies and musical studies. At the age of 7, she took piano lessons, and revealed herself quite talented. At the age of 17, she got her high school diploma, and a first prize of piano at the music conservatory of Jerusalem. Right after that, she did her military service, and was charged to lead a musical comedy, Cinq sur cinq, which received great success among the soldiers, to such an extent that the director of one of the most important theatres of Jerusalem decided to put it on stage. Rika Zaraï (născută Rivka Gozman), cântăreață, compozitoare de muzică ușoară și actriță, s-a născut pe 19 februarie , la Ierusalim, într-o familie de evrei.
A studiat pedagogie muzicală la Seminarul pedagogic în cartierul Beit Hakerem, dar și pianul la Academia de muzică ”Rubin” din Ierusalim. La Academie l-a cunoscut pe compozitorul Yohanan Zarai, cadru didactic, imigrant din Ungaria, cu care s-a căsătorit. A fost profesoară de pian în școli din Ierusalim.
În , Teatrul ”Ohel” din Tel Aviv a acceptat să pună în scenă o revistă muzicală „Pshitá bakfar” (”Razie în sat”), după o piesă a scriitorului Aharon Megged, pe muzică de Yohanan Zarai, destinată inițial ansamblului Comandamentului de centru, pe versuri scrise de Naomi Shemer. Datorită acestui show, despre care s-a scris în presă, soții Shemer și Zarai au devenit populari și foarte căutați de public.

Pendant deux ans et demi, elle continuera à se consacrer à la musique et sera même nommée directrice musicale dans un groupe artistique de l'armée, puis répétitrice pour la comédie musicale Cinq sur cinq composée par un certain Yohanan Zarai. Rika Gussmann Zaraï(Jeruzalem, 19 februari – Parijs, 23 december ) was een Franse zangeres. Haar vader kwam uit Odessa (nu Oekraïne) in het Russische rijk, en haar moeder uit Valozhyn (nu Wit-Rusland), toen in Polen. Ze slaagde voor haar baccalaureaat op jarige leeftijd en vervulde haar militaire dienstplicht, een jaar eerder dan normaal was. Ze ging naar het Muziekconservatorium van Jeruzalem waar ze een eerste prijs haalde door haar pianospel. Tijdens de 18 maanden in het leger werd ze benoemd tot muziekproducent van een legergroep.
Op 9 november werd ze het slachtoffer van een auto-ongeluk. De zangeres lag zes dagen in coma en bleef acht maanden beperkt mobiel in een omhulsel van gips. Ondanks een gereserveerde medische prognose herstelde ze na drie jaar volledig. Het was tijdens haar pijnlijke herstel dat Rika, als een pleister op haar wonden, het nummer Balapapa opnam, met vrolijke teksten en dat een groot succes zou worden.
