Raymond burr biography book

Poorly written, poorly researched apology about a very complex man who lived in a time when there was a premium placed on public persona and the truth was considered a liability. I know Mr. Burr valued his privacy immensely and had a seemingly obsessive desire to remain under the radar. But this book trumpets as fact some things that are irrefutable falsehoods. Mr. Burr's story is one that should be told honestly now that 2 decades have elapsed since his passing, and I can only hope that Mr. Benevides finds the strength and the medium to tell the truth about Mr. Burr. The world is a different place now, and a true biography that tells of the strengths
and weaknesses of the man who inspired so many will, almost assuredly, lift the clouds of doubt and speculation and reveal a man whose life tells a story that should be told, and, in the end, likely reveal a man who did much good for the world despite the unfair handicaps he faced.

Whenever ink was set to paper in the popular press during actor Raymond Burr's lifetime -- for the purpose of telling anything about his life -- two things were true: that there was ink, and there was paper. Burr's life on paper was almost as total a lie as could possibly exist.

In this biography of the famed TV and movie actor, Burr -- star of the long-running series Perry Mason and villainous character actor in films such as Alfred Hitchcock's Rear Window and Anthony Mann's Raw Deal -- Michael Seth Starr washes the boards clean and comes up with the story of an actor beset by secrets simply untenable in golden age Hollywood. The biggest of these secrets, of course, was that Burr was gay. He married once, a sham of course, and was beset by demons, particularly his weight problem that prevented him from ever becoming a leading man in movies, despite a strong handsome face and burly commanding voice.
