TORONTO–An icon in the Filipino music industry, Pabs Dadivas stood as one of the pillars in the history of Pinoy rock. A very talented and versatile performer who could powerfully but yet in a cool voice sing any gender of music from rock to ballads to jazz to rhythm and blues.
Regarded as an international acclaimed artist, Pabs collaborated with famed musicians including Harvey Mason a session drummer for George Benson, and recently with Jim Savitt who opened for Boney James a Grammy nominee. Leah Lopez Navarro was still in her late teens when she became a major pop-music star in the Philippines in the ss. Born to a well-off family, Leah’s mom is Nelda Lopez Navarro, a singer herself who used have her own TV program The Nelda Navarro show. Leah was practically convent-bred and finished college at Assumption College in Makati City, around the time alumna Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo was teaching there.
Her singing talent was discovered while still in school and she went on to sing pop music hits of the ss such as “Kailangan Kita” and “Saan Ako Nagkamali “(both by George Canseco, “Lagi na Lang” (by Nonong Pedero) and “Ang Pag-ibig Kong”. Her interpretation of “Isang Mundo, Isang Awit&#; won the Grand Prize in the annual Metro Manila Popular Music Festival of then actively sponsored by Imee and Irene Marcos, presidential daughters and music aficionados.

Founded by Atek Jacinto, the Circus played for schools, television shows, and concerts all around the nation and had a total of 5 albums recorded. Whether or not it was a conscious intention of Atek, most of the members of the Circus Band were soloists in their own right. Among them were vocalists Jacqui Magno, Tillie Moreno, Pat Castillo, Basil Valdez, Hajji Alejandro, Richard Tan and Pabs Dadivas backed up by Keyboardist Boy Katindig, 2nd Keyboardist Gerry Paraiso+, Lead Guitarist Rudy Lozano, Bassist Paco Gamboa and Drummer Walter Calinawan+. Other short-lived vocalists also included Ann Marie Santos, Lory Tan, and the newer ones that eventually replaced those who left were Cerez Jacinto, Gem Jacinto, and Didith Reyes.
The band was known for its funky music, outlandish costumes and make-up, and for perfect note rendition of foreign hits. Some of the crowd favorites of the time were “Right Thing To Do”, “Betcha By Golly Wow”, “Lady Marmalade”, “Wild Flower”, “The Harder I Try” and “Love The One You’re With”.
