Mühlhiasl. Der Waldprophet ist ein Roman von Paul Friedl über den sagenumwobenen Waldpropheten Mühlhiasl/Stormberger, der erstmals / unter dem Namen Der Waldprophet. Ein Waldroman in der Passauer Neuen Presse erschien.
Inhalt
Am Juli findet der Rabensteiner Stierhüter Mattias Buchinger im Wald einen etwa fünfjährigen Knaben. Dessen Eltern, ein Bärenführer und eine Wahrsagerin, werden bald darauf erstochen beziehungsweise erhängt geborgen. Da am Tag des Fundes ein schwerer Sturm wütete, gibt der Landrichter von Zwiesel dem Kind den Namen Sturmberger und teilt ihm Buchinger als Pfleger zu. Am August wird das Kind in Zwiesel auf den Namen Matthias getauft. Aufgrund eines Fehlers wird der Nachname von Sturmberger zu Stormberger.
Sein Hinweis ermöglicht es dem Hüttenmeister Haas, in der örtlichen Paternosterhütte durch in die Schmelze geworfene Golddukaten blutrotes Rubinglas herzustellen, das Rabenstein berühmt macht. Doch nach dem Tod des Hüttenmeisters endet diese Glanzzeit, und der Hüttenherr Stadler brennt vor Verzweiflung selbst die Hütte nieder und wird zum Mörder. NOTE: The “iron road” and “iron hound” most certainly refers to railroads and trains. The “wagon without horse and shaft” is the automobile and, of course, Lang is predicting airplane travel when he described people who “fly like birds in the sky.” The silver fish could be an airplane or possibly a German Zeppelin. All of these things came to Bavaria just before World War One. Lang continues in another prophecy when he describes World War Two:
&#;After the Great War there will be no peace. The people will rise and all will fight against each other&#; The rich and noble will be killed. The World War will not make people bet

Der Stormberger war ein sagenumwobener Prophet, der im Jahrhundert in Rabenstein lebte.
Erforschung
Seit zwei Jahrhunderten fasziniert der Stormberger mit seinen Prophezeiungen die Menschen. Häufig wird er mit dem als Mühlhiasl identifizierten Matthäus Lang gleichgesetzt, doch der Volkskundler Professor Reinhard Haller ist sich nach eingehenden Nachforschungen sicher, dass die beiden nichts miteinander zu tun haben.
Demnach kommt der älteste Beleg für den Namen „Starnberger“, der in der Umgangssprache zu „Stormberger“ wurde, aus Lindberg. Dort war nach dem Herdstättenverzeichnis von ein Michael Starnberger als Waldhüter tätig. Ein „Schreib-Calender“ der Glashütte Rabenstein erwähnt dann unter den Rabensteiner Aschenbrennern erstmals ebenfalls einen gewissen „Starnberger“. Außerdem ist an einer Stelle ein „Starnberger Bue“ (Bub) verzeichnet, der zum hüttenunmittelbaren Personal gehörte. In der „Bodenmaiser Handschrift“ aus der Zeit um wird ein „Starnberger Hütter“ von Rabenstein erstmals als Weissager aufgeführt.
