Mariano Rajoy Brey (Santiago de Compostela, March 27, ) is a Spanish politician of the Popular Party, sixth president of the Government of Spain after the transition, between and In the He currently works as a commercial registrar.

Rajoy was born in Santiago de Compostela into a family of lawyers. He has a law degree from the University of Santiago de Compostela. At the age of twenty-three, he passed the opposition to the Corps of Property and Commercial Registrars of Spain, thus becoming the youngest registrar in Spain to date. His first political position, when he was a member of Alianza Popular, was a seat on the Parliament of Galicia in He has held numerous positions since then, both in Galicia and in the two governments of José María Aznar. He has been Minister and Vice President of the Government five times between and In he was proposed by Aznar as his successor at the head of the Popular Party, a position to which he was elected by the party in September of that same year.
