Jimy Sohns, the lead vocalist of the Chicago-based &#;60s band The Shadows of Knight, died on July 29, , at age His death was confirmed on Facebook by his daughter, Raechel, who wrote, “My dads is gone at pm! He wired for me to go outside and left us! Fly high my rock n roll.&#;

The band&#;s Facebook page noted, &#;Absolutely devastated. My thoughts go out to Jimy’s family and friends at this time. My best friend is gone, and I will miss running this page with him. His legend will live on forever.”

Sohns had experienced a stroke earlier in the week.

The Shadows of Knight were best known for their Top 10 cover of “Gloria,” a prototypical garage-rock song written by Ireland’s Van Morrison and originally recorded by the latter’s band Them. That version only reached #93 in America on the Billboard singles chart, and most radio stations in the U.S. played the American cover version instead.

The Shadows of Knight went on to chart four more times, most notably with “Oh Yeah” a few months later in

Jimy Sohns, the lead singer of The Shadows of Knight rock band and the voice of its monster hit &#;Gloria,&#; has died at the age of 75 of complications from a stroke.

His death was announced on the band&#;s Instagram page and by his daughter.

&#;Gloria&#; was originally recorded and performed by Van Morrison, but was popularized by Chicago&#;s The Shadows of Knight upon its December release. It was a Top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot singles chart.

Sohns and a friend still ran the band&#;s social media pages in the last few years, although he no longer performed.  

The band&#;s Instagram page conveyed its sorrow at his passing.

The Shadows of Knight began in with a year-old Sohns, Warren Rogers (lead guitar), Roger Spielmann (lead and rhythm guitar/vocals) Norm Gotsch (rhythm guitar), Wayne Pursell (bass) and Tom Schiffour (drums). Jimy Sohns, the founder and leader of the Chicago classic rock band Shadows of Knight whose recording of Gloria is enshrined in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, passed away from a stroke on July 29 at Alexian Brothers Hospice Residences surrounded by his family. He was Sohns, a resident of Roselle, was born Aug. 23, in Chicago to Francis and Doris (nee Cameron). He is also a member of the Chicago Rock-N-Roll Hall of Fame. Shadows of Knight was formed in and its recording of Gloria was released soon thereafter and became a leader in the wave of garage band hits. He has continued to perform with various iterations of the band, appearing as recently as ten days before his death. Loving father of Raechel Sohns-Stebbins; fond grandfather of Justin and Jimy Stebbins; beloved cousin of Margaret Jo Murphy(John); dear friend to many. He will be missed by all those whose lives he touched and especially his dear friends Rhonda Holland, Jeremy Marks, Susan and Dan Stone, Jason Stebbins, Angelo Karras and his long-time companion Kathy Strahan.
