Former J-K governor Jagmohan's demise a monumental loss for India: PM Modi
Former Union minister and Jammu and Kashmir governor Jagmohan, 93, has passed away after a spell of illness.
He died on Monday.
A number of dignitaries including Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid rich tributes to him on Tuesday.
"Jagmohan Ji's demise is a monumental loss for our nation. He was an exemplary administrator and a renowned scholar. He always worked towards the betterment of India. His ministerial tenure was marked by innovative policy making. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti," Modi tweeted.
Jagmohan started his career as a bureaucrat and was seen by many as a tough and efficient administrator. He also served as the lieutenant governor of Delhi.
He was appointed Jammu and Kashmir governor in and completed his five-year tenure.
As militancy erupted in Jammu and Kashmir, he was made the governor again in but was removed within a few months as differences between him and the then V P Singh-led government at the Centre grew over tackling the militancy.
Jagmohan then joined the BJP and represented the party in the Lok Sabha a number of times from New Delhi.

Jagmohan is an Indian politician hailing from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) who served many responsible honorary positions after the Independence of India. He is a retired civil servant, former Lieutenant Governor Delhi, Goa and Governor Jammu & Kashmir.
Early Life of Jagmohan
Jagmohan was born on September 25, , in the railway colony of Cheecho Ki Malian now located in West Pakistan. Jagmohan`s father was posted as track engineer in the Indian Railways. From time to time, the family moved to other stations and lived in various railway colonies. At that time, the national movement for freedom was gaining ground. But it was soon overtaken by the divisive fall-outs of the `two nation` theory due to British strategy of `divide and rule`. All this led to the Partition of India, communal riots and killings and also a large scale migration of population across the dividing line. Jagmohan himself escaped death by a whisker. Jagmohan Malhotra, known by the mononym Jagmohan, is a former Indian politician and civil servant. Formerly a loyalist of the Nehru–Gandhi family associated with the Indian National Congress, later in his career he switched allegiance to the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Jagmohan first gained notoriety during his stint as vice-chairman of the Delhi Development Authority in the mid s. During this time he grew close to Sanjay Gandhi, who began to wield increasing clout in the functioning of his mother Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's government.
