Education

Doctor Zaidi possesses a Master&#;s degree in Public Administration from Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University and has been a Mason Fellow for Public Policy at Harvard Institute for International Development. He has a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Finance from Indian Institute of Finance and holds doctorate in Biology-Chemistry.

Career

He is a retired Indian Administrative Service officer of batch from the Uttar Pradesh cadre. He has served as the Director General of Civil Aviation. He retired from Institute for Advanced Study as Secretary to the Government of India in Ministry of Civil Aviation on 31 July

Syed Nasim Ahmad Zaidi takes over as 20th chief election commissioner on 20 April He is an IAS officer of batch and was working as election commissioner since He has taken over from HS Brhma who retired on 18th of April. Incidentally, Nasim Zaidi’s tenure as CEC will end in July The Indian government has not yet filedl up the two vacancies created in the three-member election commission following the retirement of V S Sampath in January and now HS Brahma.

Nasim Zaidi originally hails from Jansath town of Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh. His father Aqueel Ahmad was a police inspector in UP Police who later migrated to Dehradun where Nasim his brother Qumar Ahmad and three sisters were educated. His brother Qumar Ahmad is presently chairman of minority Commission of Delhi was an IAS officer and was main inspirational force for Nasim for qualifying for IAS.
